Knowing where your food comes from is a very important thing to consumers these days. Considering all the hype over Monsanto and non-labelled GMO’s, people are realizing that this is a big problem. People do not want mystery food, or unknown ingredients – they want natural, organic produce that they can trust and rely on.

Knowing where my food came from was never a big issue for me. I grew up how most people did, eating a standard North American diet, and not really paying attention to the food that I consumed. It wasn’t until February 2014 that I really started to take my health seriously; and that is when I decided to go Vegan.

When I first made the decision, I had no idea what a vegan was. I literally typed into Google: “what do vegans eat?” and “where do vegans get protein?” But now, a year and a half later, I am practically an expert on veganism, and am also the healthiest I have ever been, both physically and mentally.

The foods that we consume are everything. You are what you eat – literally, and I believe that if we eat feared, tortured animals, that energy becomes us. Once I cut out all animal by-products from my diet, my face cleared up, my vibes got brighter, and my energy levels increased. I felt happier and healthier than I ever have before. Eating a whole foods, plant based diet is what makes me feel my best. Waking up in the morning and choosing from a rainbow selection of fruits makes me so happy and energized to start my day.

I do not put anyone down for their eating choices; each to their own. But I do however want to spread the vegan/plant based message, and let everyone know how amazing it makes me feel so that they as well can have the opportunity to improve their lives and feel amazing.

Not only did I start eating vegan when I changed my lifestyle, but I also started buying organic. I remember looking at the label on my peanut butter and seeing a whole bunch of additives such as hydrogenated oils, salt, sugar, multidexterin, etc. If you cannot pronounce an ingredient, it should not be in our food. Instead, I switched to natural, organic peanut butter, where the ingredient was simply just peanuts. Sweet and simple; just how real food should be. You can choose to buy natural, organic peanut butter, or even just make your own, simply by blending nuts in a food processor!

If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don’t eat it. That’s my simple rule to life.

I no longer have to worry about ingredients, or stress about calories. All the foods I am eating are whole, healthy, and come from the ground; just as mother-nature intended. I feel peaceful when I eat, and spiritual as I live. My mum has a garden in our backyard with cucumber, tomatoes,cherry tomatoes, and even watermelon now. I love waking up in the morning, PJ’s on, messy hair, and sitting cross legged on the grass, picking cherry tomatoes and eating them right from the garden. I don’t have to worry about GMO’s or pesticides, because the food was grown ourselves and we can trust and rely on that.

Buying organic can sometimes be a bit pricey, but I always say, health is wealth; and in the end, you’ll be paying for your health more if you’re sick with tons of hospital bills. Pay for your health now; not later.

It is only as easy or hard as you make it, and as long as you go into it with an open mind and a kind heart, you will not fail.
